Team Odyssey Paintball Scenario Team was started over 10 years ago. Our founder and current Co-Captain, Stephen “Bonz” Verrett, decided to make his first trip to Houston and play in the original Twilight Zone game in 1996. From that moment on, he was hooked. He spent the next few years telling everyone he could about scenario paintball, the organization, sportsmanship, and community surrounding the sport. He would drag anyone that would listen with him to play. One of those players was Ken “Ninja” Prejean, who joined the team in 1999, and later in 2001 became Co-Captain with Bonz. Since then, we have had members move to Texas, and we now have many of our newer players who live in Texas.
For every game, we bring a little piece of home with us. Gallons of homemade gumbo, pounds of boudin and hogs-head cheese are the popular feast for Friday nights. The Team Odyssey campsite is always a must see for any paintballer that likes good food. We feed anyone that wants to eat and usually have the biggest gatherings of the night. If you come to any event, you can just look for the line on Friday night and you’re bound to find us. Ask any scenario paintballer about Team Odyssey and you’ll usually get a one-word response, “mmm…Gumbo!!”
Over the years, Team Odyssey has become as well known on the field as much as off. Since Bonz’ first game when he won MVP (Most Valuable Player) Odyssey’s success has grown immensely. We have become very well known and respected by players and staff at Viper, GFG, PBC, and other games. We have won 22 team awards (14 Most Valuable Team, 7 Most Formidable Opponent, and one Honorable Mention), and 13 individual awards (4 MVP awards, 3 Best Sportsmanship awards, 2 Most Valuable Ref and 4 Victorious Commander awards). We are a team that is proud to be known for sportsmanship and honesty and we live by Viper’s motto:
“Make sure the guy you are shooting at is having as much fun as you are.”
Now, 10 years and over 50 scenarios later, we are a team with a core of about 20 loyal paintballers and have become a well-known band of RV traveling Cajun paintball maniacs. We attend anywhere from 4 to 7 games in a year and travel from our home of Lafayette, LA and Texas to wherever the games take us. We have traveled to games in Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, Fairfield, Kansas, Oklahoma and Wayne Dollacks Grand Finale in Florida. We have plans to start traveling to other games at Northern US fields across the country on a yearly basis.
Team Odyssey is committed to fair play, sportsmanship, teamwork and fun. We believe that paintball is a great sport with the best camaraderie and we do our best to promote it. As a team, we strive to improve our skills and tactics. As a team, we are successful or not. It is never any one persons fault. We each have skills and abilities that make us unique, but it is when we work together as a team, we feel that accomplish much more. We pull base security, we run missions, we hang back in reserve, we assault the opposing base, and we act as a strike force. We do WHATEVER the general needs us to do. In short, we fully support our general to the best of our ability. And we have fun doing it.
Our members range from 10 to 59 years of age. We accept any players to our team who can follow our simple guidelines. There is no room for attitude, cheating, or poor sportsmanship on our team. We also often invite new/newer players to run with us at games so that we can give a little bit back to the sport. Ken “Ninja” Prejean also facilitates a player to player welcome at the games we attend, geared towards the newer players. We answer basic questions about scenarios, tactics, and find the loners or smaller teams someone more experienced to run with if they so desire.
We hope to see you at our next game. It’ll be easy to spot us. We’ll be the Cajuns and Texans having the time of our lives!
